"Dating Site Scams."

If you have a story of getting scammed you would like to share, contact me and i will post it here.

I have used Yahoo Personals, Match.com and TRUE.com. All 3 of the websites have major issues with them. Some of the issues are very questionable or just at the edge. Some of the issues I think are just outright fraudulent.

One of the reasons I built this site is to help me find that mystery woman I have been searching for all my life. This site will hopefully provide her with more substantial detail about who I really am. The other sites are very limited. I Am 39, Single, Never Married, no kids. I am looking for a Good hearted woman. I LOVE dark hair.

The only Dating website that I have used so far which I think is the most legitimate, is also FREE ! Here is my profile there.
http://www.plentyoffish.com/member1805097.htm

I am going to fill in extensive details here soon as to the nonsense that goes on at the other sites, but here are some basics :

Links to my Profiles.

# 1 on Match.com I just recently built this (March 2006) :
http://www.match.com/profile/showprofile.aspx?ortp=1&TP=U&uid=UxZhzU4wj3LzMIiDNKsEMQ%3d%3d&lid=21
# 2 on Yahoo at : http://personals.yahoo.com/us/personals-1039762557-185357
# 3 on TRUE.com at : http://www.true.com/profile/view_profile.htm?uid=1060070

Of the 3 Sites.

MATCH.com
Match.com has been the most responsive to resolve issues and fix things. That is... after I yelled loud enough one day, one of their executive team emailed me back. Ever since then I email him directly and things get resolved. Way to go Maurice ! Most of it has been fake ads but they are almost all posted by some idiots in Nigeria trying to scam the US guys for money. But of the 3 services, Match is the best I have used. One thing I don't like though... I think they recently changed their policy that now, if you are not a paying member, you can not Read an email if it is set TO you. So if a paying member sends you an email and your not a paying member too, you have to pay first to read it. there is a good and bad point to that so it sort of balances out.

Yahoo.com
Total disappointment and waste of money.
In 5 years I wrote to over 800 women using their "service" 80% never bothered to return even a simple "thank you, get lost." about 19% turned out to be fake ads or Russian brides. and I actually met 1% (8) women from the site. 2 became friends and nothing more. of that bulk of the 800 I wrote to, many of the ads would disappear almost immediately, within days, after writing to them.

Also on yahoo, there are/were volume's of duplicate fakes. Yahoo used to have a feature to do a text search for keywords within 1,000 miles of a zip code. That made it easy to identify the repetitive fake ads across the country and report them. It got to a point where I was reporting 20 to 30 fake ads a week. These are ads that when you write to them, the never responded back. Then one day after a "site upgrade" the search feature was limited to only allow you to do 50 miles max. Kind of hard to find duplicates when they take away the feature. That and the fact that when you write to them they never respond back at all, implies that the fake ads are all plants by yahoo itself to get users to sign up and write to women. The logic is that even the fake ads that are scams or Russian brides ALWAYS write back because they are trying to get something from you.

TRUE.com (or.. false.com ?)
No question. COMPLETE waste of money. I think this is a total fraud site.
(March 2006) True : I am likely going to delete the profile on TRUE in the next couple of weeks. True has some neat features, but it's quirky. even if someone writes to you, its impossible to respond back unless you are a paying subscriber. So even if you just wanted to be kind and say "thanks, no thanks", you can't do that unless you pay... also, unless you are a subscriber, you can't see all of the photos of a persons profile. you can see EVERYTIHNG else, but not the photos. that's goofy... (porn sites make you pay to look at pictures.) Another thing about True. while they started out and seemed legit, their marketing campaigns are now all centered around sex. yes, sex is great, buts not what you should base a relationship on. so yes.. I am likely going to delete my profile with them.

(May 23rd, 2006, Update:) I have reason to believe that TRUE is now "False." I went to cancel my profile and all of a sudden I have more winks and emails sent my way in a few days than I had in the entire 3 years I had the account. I sent responses to everyone (just to be nice) and got back 1 email that said she never winked at me and that she spends most of her time writing to people apologizing because TRUE is apparently sending out winks to people she has never expressed interest in.

True states that it does a criminal background check on all of its users. I am 95+% positive that is a lie. In December 2004, I created a FAKE woman's account and sent myself (my real account) an email from the fake account all in under 3 minutes. (you can NOT do a criminal background check in 3 minutes). Today May 23rd, 2006 that fake account is still active on their system and comes up in the searches. I only used that account once and never since. It is still able to be found in their searches almost 2 years later.

Women, did you know that TRUE.com is using your profiles to promote a beauty pageant on www.AskMen.com ? Look for yourself here http://www.askmen.com/women/votes_300/322_true_women.html. OR Go To www.AskMen.com and in their search box type in "TRUE" and hit search. look at item #6 "Beauty Pageant."

True tries to pass itself off as a safer/ high standard website. So then, why are all of the ads for it centered on sex ? Every ad that i have seen recently has some hot, model quality, barely dressed, seductive looking woman, and the ads all basically say "she is waiting for you!" Just FYI... that does not represent the majority of the users on TRUE. (And yea, I already know I am NOT Mr. GQ either. what's your point ?)

In addition I found THIS ARTICLE about how true is ripping people off. it appears they are in several lawsuits too. or you can do a google search for class+action+lawsuit+true.com

Who's your Daddy ? I am 39 years old. Even though my settings are CLEARLY marked that I am looking for someone 28-39, TRUE.com continuously sends me links to profiles of women that are 18 years old. I have repeatedly told them to stop, but they have failed to do anything about it. My next step is to write to all of the 18 year olds and tell them true gave me their profile and said we are a perfect match. Maybe that will provoke a reaction.

finally, after I signed up to respond to a few people that "supposedly" winked at me.... They changed me the outlandish monthly fee of $50. last time i used their "service" it was only $30 a month. Then like 5 days later I got billed again, but for 99 cents for some "advice" or something. I worte to them and asked what it was about and said to refund it. I never even got a response from them. That was the straw that broke the camels back and provoked this section of my website.
Everyone say thanks to TRUE.com !!!
